Sensitized Pain Receptors

Or I Picked a Bad Week to Cut Back on Caffeine...

This will surely venture where no man wants to go. Yes, the gyno's office. Again.

I went to the gyno the other day because the Depo Provera shot wore off-- or will wear off or something-- and I need some form of birth control. Not because I'm actually getting any-- by any I, of course, cotton candy, mom, so stop reading over my shoulder. I need the birth control to basically slow down my ovaries and slow down my endometriosis. Aren't you glad you stopped by to read this?

Why didn't I continue with the Depo? Well, because I've been getting nearly constant hot flashes. I'm too young for hot flashes. And I haven't slept through one night since that damned shot. I'm too hot, too cold, tossing and turning. Do you know how many times I've nearly fallen out of bed? Just because I was trying to find a cool spot. I was so over the Depo. I needed something new. Something less menopausal.

So, like I said, I went to the gyno the other day. I told him that I was tired of the hot flashes, the even more painful migraines, the severe bloating and PMS. He tells me to cut back on caffeine-- my life's blood-- because caffeine sensitizes pain receptors-- aha! so that's where the title came from!-- and cutting back on it-- caffeine, not pain receptors-- will make me feel a whole lot better. Now, I was completely ready to disregard his advice because I think caffeine-free cola tastes all kinds of nasty and I already cut back on my damned tea intake, now you want to take my cola too?! Do you HATE me? But I thought of a more superficial reason to cut back on soda: my teeth. They aren't as pearly white as they once were and doesn't the caramel coloring stain teeth? Well, that settled that. One black tea a day and one caffeinated soda a day. Kinda like the doctor ordered!

Oh, and he put me on Yasmin. We'll see how I do on that. I gained 4lbs. in the past two days, but that might've been the donuts I bought.. And the not exercising like I said I would.. And, maybe, the chicken I fried up last night...

But I prefer blaming the pill.

Ugh, birth control seems to be more trouble than its worth in some cases. I've switched three times now in the past 10 months since I started taking it. (OrthoTriCyclen to OrthoCyclen to Yasmin)
Yasmin has proven to be pretty nice so far... I'm thinking my body is used to it after four months, but who knows. I did notice that my period was heavier upon switching which is Oh So Delightful but whatever. Let me know if you have any other side effects... I've been heavily looking into getting an IUD put in.

No caffine? Holy crap, i feel for you so badly. Jeez, caffine would be my only vice, if i had to get rid of it...i don't even want to go there! However, it is very interesting about the pain receptors...must look into that. Shall be following your progress :)

Kate- I don't know if this has happened to you, but I've puffed up like a marshmallow a bit. But just a bit. And I have to constantly pee. So I'm thinking water weight.

I've also heard that artificial sweeteners can induce bloat. I love my Splenda. I need to cut back on that too.

I also have this urge to hit people. But I am surrounded by a lot of annoying people, so that might be normal.

Michelle- I can't cut out caffeine completely-- though I did do that once, it was a miserable time-- but I am cutting way back on it. One cut of caffeinated tea per day and a soda. The rest of the time I'm drinking herbal tea and water. This would be easier to do in the summer.

i did notice that i had to pee all the time, especially at night, but i think that's evened out a bit.
one other problem (that might just be birth control in general with me) is that my sex drive has gone way down. i've always been cursed with a rather low libido but BC has made it plummet which reeeeeally sucks.

Dee- Thanks!

Kate- True, birth control does make the libido take a nose dive. I was expecting that. I didn't expect the constant peeing but that's getting better now.
